Reformatting a Western Digital My Passport hard drive to function well on Windows and Macintosh systems is neither time-consuming nor technologically demanding. Back up all important information on the drive before beginning; any data left on the drive will be destroyed during the reformatting process.
The drive is good, but it's all about the software, which is also good Any drive would work fine, really, for this job. The essence of doing it well, however, is the software you use. The bundled software here does a good job on running scheduled backups. The only thing the software doesn't do that I need to figure out is how to make a bootable clone properly. (Pn Mac, this is trivial using Carbon Copy Cloner, wish there was a Windows equivalent) This drive is 2 Terabytes, which is A LOT of backup, more than you are likely to ever need unless you are backing up a lot of video. For the price, this thing is fabulous, and I will be buying more.
